Il nuovo minialbum delle LE SSERAFIM, intitolato HOT, segna il loro ritorno sulla scena musicale a sette mesi dall’uscita dell’ultimo lavoro, CRAZY, e conclude la trilogia EASY-CRAZY-HOT.
Il singolo omonimo HOT è stato descritto come il più diretto e semplice della discografia del gruppo, con un sound vagamente rock ma dominato da una produzione liscia e poco caratterizzante, in deficit di originalità e profondità.
Tra le altre tracce dell’album, So Cynical (Badum) spicca come la migliore, grazie alla sua originalità e al coinvolgimento dei membri nella scrittura. Le altre canzoni, come Born Fire e Come Over, non sono particolarmente memorabili.
Il testo di Ash è stato al centro di una controversia a causa delle sue tematiche. La canzone parla di come superare le difficoltà e di rinascere dalle ceneri, come una fenice, affrontando e trasformandosi attraverso il dolore. L’emittente KBS ha ritenuto che i testi potessero essere intesi come una glorificazione dell’abuso fisico e mentale e dell’autolesionismo, e che contengano temi disturbanti e crudeli, motivo per cui la canzone è stata dichiarata inidonea per la trasmissione. Nonostante questo, Ash è stata apprezzata per la sua profondità emotiva.
In generale, questo lavoro sembra essere un tentativo di esplorare nuovi temi e stili, ma il singolo omonimo non convince pienamente, risultando troppo semplice e poco innovativo rispetto alle aspettative.
