Se Your Idol (ne abbiamo parlato qui) è il manifesto oscuro dei Saja Boys, Soda Pop rappresenta il loro volto pubblico: una traccia irresistibilmente dolce, frizzante e studiata alla perfezione per mascherare le loro vere intenzioni. Proveniente dalla colonna sonora del film Netflix K-Pop Demon Hunters, questa canzone dimostra la brillante versatilità con cui è stato costruito l’universo musicale della pellicola.
Eseguita sempre dalle voci impeccabili di artisti come Andrew Choi e Kevin Woo, Soda Pop abbandona le atmosfere cupe e quasi liturgiche di Your Idol per abbracciare un sound k-pop estivo, energico e colorato. Con un ritmo trascinante e un ritornello che entra subito in testa, la canzone è un’esplosione di carisma. È il tipo di brano che ogni boy band di successo avrebbe nel proprio repertorio per conquistare il grande pubblico.
L’amo dietro l’esca
Ed è proprio questa la sua funzione narrativa. Soda Pop è l’esca. Nel film, questa è la canzone che i demoniaci Saja Boys usano per presentarsi al mondo. Il testo, apparentemente innocuo, parla di un amore travolgente e di una freschezza paragonata a quella di una bibita gassata (“You’re the soda to my pop… you’re my cherry on top”). Sembra una semplice, adorabile canzone d’amore per i fan.
Tuttavia, conoscendo la vera natura dei Saja Boys, anche queste parole assumono un significato più sinistro. La “sete” di cui cantano non è solo metaforica; la dipendenza che creano, paragonata a quella per lo zucchero (“Got a sweet tooth for your love”), è letterale. È una traccia che simboleggia la facciata ingannevole della fama e del carisma, mostrando come un’apparenza dolce e innocente possa nascondere le intenzioni più predatorie.
Soda Pop è un altro impeccabile lavoro di scrittura perché funziona su due livelli: è una hit k-pop credibile e godibilissima da sola, ma nel contesto del film diventa uno strumento narrativo potentissimo, che rende il lato oscuro dei Saja Boys ancora più agghiacciante e geniale.
