Ad un anno dal rilascio del mini-album Beauty in Chaos, incentrato su una dimensione rock, KIM JAE JOONG torna con il singolo The Wave, pubblicato ieri, 20 agosto.
La title track, Tonight, ripercorre il percorso condiviso con i fan che lo hanno sostenuto nel tempo e racconta la determinazione dell’artista nel tornare a calcare il palco insieme a loro.
Il brano ruota attorno alla rinascita dopo un lungo periodo di difficoltà. JAE JOONG torna a confrontarsi con il proprio sogno, con il palco e con il pubblico, recuperando un’identità artistica rimasta a lungo in secondo piano.
Nel testo, lui fa riferimento al periodo difficile seguito alla separazione dalla sua precedente agenzia. Nonostante le difficoltà, l’artista ha continuato a lavorare alla propria carriera, sostenuto dai fan che lo hanno accompagnato lungo il cammino.
Dopo aver fondato la sua agenzia nel 2023, JAE JOONG sta vivendo alcune delle esperienze professionali che gli erano state precluse per oltre un decennio, a causa del divieto di apparire sui principali programmi televisivi, inclusa la partecipazione ai music show. Il 21 agosto è infatti tornato a Music Bank, a 18 anni di distanza dalla sua ultima apparizione nel programma.
Tonight nasce quindi come un ringraziamento ai fan che hanno continuato a sostenerlo e a seguirlo nel corso degli anni.
Anche il testo della canzone richiama la sua carriera attraverso termini come “rising star” e “spotlight”. Le due espressioni rimandano al ritorno sotto i riflettori, al superamento dei propri limiti e alla possibilità di ritrovare nella musica e nel rapporto con il pubblico una dimensione artistica che sembrava essersi interrotta.
Il “tu” a cui si rivolge il brano può essere letto sia come una persona specifica sia, in senso più ampio, come il pubblico. Diventano così centrali versi come “with you, we shine” e “we rise again”: la rinascita non viene raccontata come un percorso individuale, ma come un’esperienza condivisa tra l’artista e i suoi fan.
