You know that feeling you get when you’re onto something promising? That vibration in the air, the awareness that you’re witnessing the start of an extraordinary journey? That’s the feeling we at koreami.org got with Dane, and it hasn’t left us since.
Ever since we first featured him here, this interview has become a major goal of ours. With just three tracks to his name, starting with last year’s dazzling She Said, Dane has become a staple on our playlists. It’s the sheer quality of his sound—a captivating mix of R&B and K-indie sensibilities—that makes him so special and leaves us constantly wanting more. That’s why we’re thrilled to feature him on our pages: a fresh voice, a talent that deserves to be known and celebrated.
At the heart of our chat is Magic!, his latest single: the beating heart of this conversation, a window into his artistic vision. What’s behind the title? And most importantly, was there a moment when Dane felt the “magic” truly come to life in the music?
So you don’t miss a single drop of this enchantment, we’ve translated the lyrics for you (you can find it here). Because understanding the spark that ignites an artist’s music makes the listening experience all the more powerful and intimate.
Hello Dane, it’s an honor to have you on koreami!
So: who’s Dane?
Hello, I’m Dane, I’m a singer-songwriter currently back with my new single Magic!. I love creating music that feels personal but still easy to connect with. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed making it!
When you sit down to create music, what’s the first thing you try to capture or express? Is there a recurring emotion or idea that you feel the need to translate into sound?
It honestly depends on the song, but usually I try to lock in the vibe or mood first. I start layering different instruments to build the overall atmosphere and then let the story or emotions to holding on naturally flow into the track. Sometimes it’s something I went through, other times it’s a feeling I want the listener to experience, like nostalgia, warmth, or a quiet kind of joy.
Many artists have a “ritual” or a special place where their creativity flourishes. Is there something similar for you, or a particular time of day when you feel most inspired to compose?
I don’t really have a set routine, to be honest. But a lot of my ideas come to me randomly like humming a melody while walking or just messing around on the guitar. Since I spend most of my time in the studio, I try to capture those moments right away before they fade. So yeah, I kind of let inspiration catch me off guard and just roll with it.
Every track carries an intention. What is the deepest message or central emotion you hope to convey with Magic! to your audience?
To me, Magic! feels super charming and warm. It’s one of those songs I hope people can just relax to. No matter what kind of day they’ve had. If someone can finish the song feeling a little lighter or in a better mood, then I’ve done my job.
The title Magic! suggests something extraordinary. Was there a moment during the creation of this track when you felt you achieved true “sonic magic,” a point where everything just clicked into place?
Definitely. Just like I mentioned earlier, this one came out of nowhere.
After She Said, I really wanted to release something new, but nothing was clicking for a while. Then one day, this song sort of just appeared like magic, really. It became a turning point for me, and now it holds a really special place in my heart.
Thank you Dane! We are already looking forward to new music!
