D’altronde, prima di dare inizio a qualsiasi progetto, la domanda fondamentale da porsi è una: “What You Want?” “Cosa vuoi?“. Ottenere. Fare. Essere.
I CORTIS, il nuovo quintetto di BigHit Music, hanno fatto di questa domanda la loro pietra angolare. Il loro singolo di debutto, What You Want, è la domanda stessa che si fa musica, un mantra potente e diretto. E la risposta, il loro piano d’azione per ottenere, fare ed essere, è tutta racchiusa nel loro nome: CORTIS, voglio “colorare fuori dai margini” (Color Outside The Lines, il significato del loro nome).
La musica che sentirete è completamente diversa da quella che ci hanno proposto con GO (che trovate tradotta qui). Una base scarna e potente che unisce la cadenza hip-hop del boom-bap con le chitarre sognanti e psichedeliche degli anni ’60. In questo spazio sonoro quasi minimalista, le voci arrivano dirette, quasi crude, libere da filtri ed auto-tune, per assicurarsi che ogni parola colpisca nel segno.
Anche il Conceptual Performance Film (un MV dove la coreografia e Regina) è una chiave di lettura essenziale. L’immagine dei membri che si esibiscono su tapis roulant in un deserto sconfinato è una metafora potentissima. Quel deserto, che per i loro fratelli maggiori BTS in Yet to Come era un luogo di riflessione sul passato, per i CORTIS diventa il punto zero, la pagina bianca da cui iniziare una corsa instancabile verso il futuro. Non stanno fermi a guardarsi indietro, ma corrono sul posto, pronti a scattare. E lo faranno l’8 settembre, con l’uscita del loro EP omonimo Color Outside the Lines.
