Just breathe for a moment
pause (yes, all lowercase), the third of four tracks on 1, eaJ’s new EP, lands in his solo journey as one of his most intimate and universal reflections, serving as a breath of fresh air on an otherwise pretty aggressive album. After leaving the band DAY6, the artist embarked on a journey of self-rediscovery, a path marked by a disarming vulnerability that finds its home in his music (for a deep dive on that, check this out here). This track feels closer in spirit to his past work, especially the tracks from his Insomnia Trilogy (laughing in insomnia, smiling in insomnia, medicated insomnia)—projects that explore with honesty the complexities of mental health and personal growth through songs like Lennon, LA STARS, and traveler.
eaJ’s solo career is all about turning his inner struggles into art, a process that’s also clear in today’s other new track, RED (we talked about it here). As the EP’s main track and the theme song for the video game Arena Breakout: Infinite, the song’s aggression becomes a metaphor for his battle against his own demons.
pause captures a different feeling—something sweeter and more intimate. The lyrics are an invitation to stop time, to crystallize a moment of happiness so perfect it feels like a scene from a movie. Far from grand gestures, the magic eaJ wants to hold onto lies in the little things: lazy afternoons on the couch, laughing on the way to the coffee shop. It’s a sonic snapshot of the joy found in the simple, comfortable routine of a relationship, a too good to be true moment you wish would never end.
With its delicate melody and heartfelt performance, this track offers a sincere glimpse into the artist’s heart. Here are the lyrics and their Italian translation.
pause
[Strofa 1]
No, non mi dispiace, per me va bene qualsiasi cosa, tesoro
[Pre-Ritornello]
Troppo bello per essere vero
Dal mio punto di vista
Sembra proprio un film, sì
A volte vorrei che potessimo semplicemente
[Ritornello]
Mettere in pausa
Per un po’, per un po’, solo per un po’
Potremmo semplicemente mettere in pausa, proprio ora
Potremmo solo mettere in pausa?
Potremmo semplicemente mettere in pausa, proprio ora
[Strofa 2]
Se potessi salvare questo momento
Lo registrerei su una cassetta
Per ricordare come ci si sente
Lo guarderei ogni giorno
[Refrain]
[Pre-Ritornello]
È troppo bello per essere vero
Dal mio punto di vista
Sembra proprio un film, sì
A volte vorrei che potessimo semplicemente
[Ritornello]
Mettere in pausa
Per un po’, per un po’, solo per un po’
Potremmo semplicemente mettere in pausa, proprio ora
Potremmo solo mettere in pausa?
Potremmo semplicemente mettere in pausa, proprio ora
[Refrain]
pause
[Verse 1]
Feels a little different
And nothing is the same
God, he has a favourite
Looking at your face
Scene out of a movie
I hope it never ends
You say it’s getting late, but
Why not stay instead?
For a night, or forever if you like
No, I don’t mind, I’m down for whatever babe
[Pre-Chorus]
Too good to be true
From my point of view
Straight from a movie, yeah
Sometimes I wish that we could just
[Chorus]
Pause
For a little, for a little, for a little bit
We could just pause, right now
Could we just pause?
For a little, for a little, for a little bit
We could just pause, right now
If I could save the moment
I’d record it on a tape
To remember what it feels like
I’d watch it everyday
[Refrain]
Lazy days on your sofa
Laugh our way to the coffee shop
Little things, that’s all I want wit’ you
[Pre-Chorus]
It’s too good to be true
From my point of view
Straight from a movie, yeah
Sometimes I wish that we could just
[Chorus]
Pause
For a little, for a little, for a little bit
We could just pause, right now
Could we just pause?
For a little, for a little, for a little bit
We could just pause, right now
[Refrain]
Lazy days on your sofa
Laugh our way to the coffee shop
Little things, that’s all I want
