Avevamo detto che avremmo seguito da vicino la sua carriera, e il nuovo mini album conferma una lucida strategia aziendale da parte di SM Entertainment.
Considerata la complessa storia di Hong Seunghan e la sua estromissione dai RIIZE, avevamo promesso che avremmo seguito con molta attenzione il suo rientro nell’industria del k-pop. Eccoci quindi puntuali ad analizzare il nuovo tassello di questa operazione, che prende la sua forma definitiva con l’uscita del primo mini album Glow, pubblicato per SM Entertainment.
Come avevamo già intuito dai rilasci precedenti, l’agenzia ha scartato la canonica via del solista in cerca di riscatto. Il cantante è stato inserito in un collettivo, i XngHan&Xoul, affiancato in pianta stabile da altri due membri e ballerini professionisti: Kyohong e Yul. Dal punto di vista del business, si tratta di una scelta pragmatica e lucidissima. Distribuire il peso dell’esibizione e la pressione mediatica su una squadra coesa allontana i riflettori dalle passate vicende del singolo individuo, costruendo al contempo un’identità visiva urbana e ruvida.
In ottica di onestà intellettuale, dobbiamo essere chiari: Glow non offre un grande spessore a livello testuale. Le liriche si appoggiano in maniera piuttosto didascalica alla necessità di ritrovare la propria luce e a generici inviti all’azione. Sono parole funzionali a sostenere la narrazione di un ragazzo che sta ricostruendo la sua carriera, ma che artisticamente mostrano il fianco.
La traccia regge però benissimo l’esecuzione corale. Il pezzo funziona come una solida impalcatura ritmica, strutturata appositamente per esaltare la componente fisica e coreografica della crew, dove Seunghan si amalgama perfettamente ai movimenti di Kyohong e Yul. Al momento, non essendoci conferme ufficiali nei crediti del distributore, non è possibile specificare chi abbia scritto il brano o chi abbia curato la coreografia. Abbiamo inoltre condotto una ricerca approfondita per verificare se Seunghan avesse rilasciato dichiarazioni a margine dell’uscita, ma emerge un silenzio calcolato: non ci sono commenti o interviste da parte sua. Un approccio che fa parlare la fisicità del gruppo al posto dell’artista.
