We are accustomed to viewing Europe merely as a massive stage for K-Pop, but with SUMMER, the script flips: our continent is stepping directly into the production role. Her new single Little Kitty, released today, November 26th, proves that the gap between Seoul and Paris is shrinking—not just on playlists, but in the recording studio as well.

Let’s take a step back though, as SUMMER is hardly a newcomer to the performance scene. Boasting a solid background in musical theater and a series of street dance covers that have amassed over 10 million views, the artist has built a rock-solid reputation grounded in movement and a “spring-like” energy. It is precisely this undeniable talent that led her to triumph as the Grand Winner of the 2024 Koreo Awards.

And here is where the story gets interesting. Thanks to this victory, SUMMER secured the opportunity to create her own original track, transforming herself from a dancer into a vocalist. Placing his faith in her was French producer Tibaut Pezzo, who published the single, crafting a project that fuses Korean DNA with a European editorial sensibility.

The creative team is top-tier and reveals an almost familial dimension: the track was composed and arranged by the RGBY team and PAINTER (HaoRen Wang), who also penned the lyrics. An intimate detail enhances the visual project: the cover artwork, with its playful doodles, was created by ZYON, SUMMER’s older sister and a member of the RGBY team herself.

The musical result is striking: the artist momentarily sets aside her explosive dance energy in favor of a nocturnal City Pop vibe—a true “Seoul city mood”. Little Kitty, supported by backing vocals from Soo Kyeong (수경), tells a story of unconditional love and loneliness through the unique perspective of a cat, embellished by French words in the lyrics that add a unique charm to the track.

The music video, directed by Kim Daru (RGBY), perfectly captures this retro-inspired atmosphere. The locations are not chosen at random: SUMMER takes us through Hannam, Yongsan, and Itaewon. We are in the nerve center of the industry, iconic districts that host giants like HYBE, transformed here into a silent and evocative backdrop for a sleeping city.

Spoiler Alert: It doesn’t end here. We are already working behind the scenes to bring you an exclusive interview. We want to ask SUMMER directly what it feels like to be the face of this creative connection between our two worlds. Stay tuned, as we may have news very soon.
